American University of Sharjah (AUS) is an international university located in the emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan articulated his vision of a distinctive institution against the backdrop of Islamic history and in the context of the aspirations and needs of contemporary society in the UAE and the Gulf region.
Based on an American model of higher education, integrating liberal arts and professional programs, and grounded in the context of UAE culture, AUS prepares engaged and effective members of society who display mastery in their areas of specialization, communicate clearly, think critically and solve problems creatively. AUS fosters a community that celebrates diversity, and whose members are committed to the ideals of open intellectual inquiry, ethical behavior and civic responsibility.
